Who is eligible to apply for support?

  • Saudi Production Companies: Local companies and institutions officially licensed and registered within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
  • International Production Companies: International companies, provided there is an official co-production agreement with a licensed Saudi production company or a co-producer (Saudi national or legal resident of the Kingdom) within the core production team.
  • Independent Filmmakers and Directors: Provided that their applications are formally submitted under the umbrella of a production company that meets the aforementioned conditions at the time of contracting.

What types of projects does the Fund support?

The Fund supports narrative, documentary, and animation film projects, both feature-length (60 minutes or more) and short films (less than 60 minutes). Support is provided to eligible projects through funding tracks tailored to the current stage of the film, whether in production/principal photography or post-production and final technical operations. Priority is given to authentic stories linked to local culture.

Does the Fund support animation projects?

Yes, the Fund supports long and short animation projects, handled according to the same technical standards and conditions approved for all funding tracks.

Does the Fund support Virtual Reality (VR) or interactive film projects?

The Fund does not support VR projects or interactive visual technologies in the current cycle; support is exclusively limited to traditional cinematic formats: narrative, documentary, and animation.

What are the criteria for project evaluation and selection?

Creative and cinematic value, cultural and social significance, financial and planning feasibility, professional experience of the team, and distribution plan.

What is the mechanism and stages of project selection?

Completed applications submitted via the online platform are reviewed by an independent jury of industry experts to evaluate the project's originality, feasibility, and readiness.

What type of support does the Fund provide?

The Fund provides direct financial support earmarked for the stage the project is currently in (Development, Production, or Post-Production).

Are there specific deadlines for submission?

Yes, the opening of applications and closing dates are officially announced via the website and the Center’s official social media channels.

How are financial support installments disbursed for projects?

  • Payments for accepted projects are disbursed according to the approved funding track as follows:
    • Development Track: 1st Installment (60%): Upon signing the agreement (within 45 days). 2nd Installment (40%): Upon approval of the developed script (within 6 months of the 1st installment).
    • Production Track: 1st Installment (25%): Upon proof of 100% co-financing. 2nd Installment (50%): Upon commencement of principal photography (within 6 months of the 1st installment). 3rd Installment (25%): Upon submission of the rough cut (within 18 months of filming commencement).
    • Post-Production Track: 1st Installment (60%): Upon proof of 100% secured remaining budget. 2nd Installment (40%): Upon approval of the final technical master copy (within 6 months of the 1st installment).

Do I retain the intellectual property rights to my film?

Yes, the filmmaker retains full intellectual property rights, while remaining legally obligated to include the Center’s logo and the official credit line in all materials.

What is the maximum funding amount I can request?

The amount is subject to the Jury Committee's assessment based on the following caps:
Short Films: Development ($15,000), Production ($50,000), Post-Production ($35,000).
Feature Films: Development ($30,000), Production ($150,000), Post-Production ($100,000).

Can I submit more than one project in the same cycle?

Yes, provided each is submitted as a separate file, and the committee will evaluate each request individually.

What happens if my project is not accepted?

All jury decisions are final and non-appealable. Filmmakers are encouraged to use the feedback to refine their files for future cycles.

What documents are required for submission?

Requirements vary by track but include: film information, logline, synopsis, bios, company profile, commercial registration, treatment, budget, and financial plan.

Does the Fund accept international co-production projects?

Yes, provided the foreign company is contractually linked to a Saudi production company based in the Kingdom.

What is the timeframe available for completing the film?

Applicants are granted a maximum timeframe specified by the Center for each track from the date of the agreement to deliver all outputs. Exceeding this period without delivering the final version results in forfeiture of remaining funds, while the legal obligation to include the Center's logo remains.

What is the official credit line required?

Accepted projects must feature the official Ithra logo clearly in the opening and closing credits and all promotional materials, acknowledging the film was produced "with support from the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture (Ithra)".

Can I modify my application after submission?

Once submitted, no direct modifications are possible. In case of a technical error, contact (Film.Fund@ithra.com) with your application number within 48 hours of submission.
