Terminal G: Stories Woven in the Gulf exhibition features Iwan Maktabi initiative dedicated to discovering and amplifying innovators from across the Gulf, inviting all to embark on a journey where stories are translated into the timeless craft of weaving.
Each hand-knotted carpet becomes a vessel of memory, culture, and imagination. Some capture fragments of heritage, others reinterpret architectural language, or reimagine symbols of place. Together, they form a woven archive of Gulf narratives, shaping what is often left unspoken.
Born as a one-time initiative, Terminal G: Stories Woven in the Gulf soon evolved into a long-term initiative that aligns with Iwan Maktabi’s vision: safeguarding regional craft and enriching the brand’s permanent collection with meaningful and aesthetically resonant works.
At Ithra, Terminal G: Stories Woven in the Gulf exhibition brings these journeys together. Carpets, sketches, and process documents reveal not only finished works but also the conversations and collaborations behind them. It celebrates design as a form of storytelling, craft as a cultural memory, and collaboration as a bridge between tradition and innovation. This exhibition is a platform in motion, a Gulf story unfolding one thread at a time.

Established in 1995 by Hajj Abbas Maktabi, Iwan Maktabi carries forward a legacy that began in 1926 with Hajj Hussein Maktabi, a visionary connoisseur from Isfahan renowned for his dedication to Islamic art and oriental carpets. Today, under the stewardship of the third generation, the brand seamlessly blends a passion for the elegance of handmade carpets with the innovative spirit of contemporary designs and materials. With a deep-rooted appreciation for hand-knotted pieces, Iwan Maktabi offers an extensive collection of antique rugs while also curating modern creations in collaboration with esteemed artists and designers. Guided by values of sustainability and fair trade, the brand ensures that each handcrafted piece not only honors artisanship but also supports eco-friendly practices.
