In this 5-day workshop participants will lead the way in the creation of ideas, of new forms and visions, and in the quality, originality and vibrancy of plays. During the workshop participants, will learn the basics of playwriting and develop and refine their skills and talents in writing. It will conclude with a play composed by the participants.

Outline: DAY 1
An introduction to playwriting including:
The role of the writer New Writing
First Drafts/redrafts/workshops/production who works on a play, what are their roles

DAY 2
Most important aspect of writing classical structure
Breaking classical structure (nonlinear form)

DAY 3
The extra character to a play
What can Location add to a play
Time/space unity

DAY 4 & 5
Write the first five pages: Mini project
Work in groups to write the first five pages to a play must have something in them that grips the reader/audience and can be performed, using what you have learnt so far.
