Farmer Gadget

Saudi Arabia is home to the world’s largest date palm oasis, yet the hands behind this agricultural wealth often go unseen. With over 31 million date palm trees, this challenge seeks to spotlight the workers who sustain this vital industry, honoring their labor through thoughtful design.

The Product Design challenge invites creatives to develop a farmer gadget, celebrating the date palm by using date palm components and characteristics as the main source of inspiration in their creations. A gadget which helps farmers throughout their working challenges, from working under environmental hardships, to the demands of their multitasking work, while celebrating their role in shaping a rich local agricultural legacy. In this six-day challenge, we explore gadgets as more than practical tools: as extensions of the farmer’s experience. It provides support for their daily flow, easing challenges while honoring the bond between farmer, land and palm.
