Dare to Design for Change!

Unleash your inner innovator and challenge your creativity by taking on a Tanween Challenge!

Tanween Challenge! Tanween Challenges is a 6-day design hackathon that offers a unique opportunity for designers across all disciplines to tackle real-world problems. 90 shortlisted participants from all over the world will get the opportunity to craft original, practical solutions within tight timeframes and limited resources. Each of the 4 challenges welcomes 20 to 30 participants (individuals or in teams) to put their creative skill sets to the test.

Supported by challenge partners, and a supplementary program of workshops and talks, participants will have the tools to tackle their challenge briefs and propose a solution.

One winning project from each track will be recognized during the Tanween closing ceremony. The selected project will then be pushed to the next stage of the challenge, working closely with the production partner to further develop and fabricate the project. All the selected projects will be featured in an exhibition curated by Ithra in 2026.

Most design today is created for the top 10% of the world’s population; those who can afford high-end products and services while the vast majority (the other 90%) are underserved in the design market.

This year, Tanween Challenges invites innovators to shift their focus toward the 90%—people whose daily lives are shaped by limited income, restricted access to basic services, extreme working environments and exclusion from the design process. From informal workers and underserved communities to individuals affected by mainstream design practices.
