Course Brief Description:

During this creative course, participants will experiment with the facilitators’ exclusive video software. They will create light-painted artworks based on the intertwined elements of calligraphy, space, light and composition. They will create abstract photos and video sequences with words written in light. During a brainstorming session in the beginning of the course, words will be chosen accurately to make up the selected visuals. All the calligraphies will then be assembled together to create a video installation. This is a very unique and effective way to showcase the efforts of the participants during the course. The goal of this course is to create an art piece based on a collective effort by the participants.

Course Objectives:

  • Learning how to connect with our mother tongue through different art approaches.
  • Building teamwork foundations.
  • Building confidence and helping the participants acquire the skills to explore their hidden potential.

Course Outcomes:

Facilitator

Karim Jabbari

A world-renowned light and calligraphy artist who helped pioneer this art medium from its beginning stages. The love he has for light and letters is fueled by his passion for incorporating culturally relevant elements into modern design. The main focus of his art is to bridge the gap between the younger generations and ancient calligraphy styles. To generate interest and re-spark an appreciation for such old-fashioned works of poetry and art, he uses modern techniques while preserving the integrity of the ancient forms and style.

His other specialties include large-scale murals around the world, calligraffiti designs (a fusion of calligraphy and graffiti), international public art installations, and teaching various calligraphy and light painting workshops.
