Course Description:

Filmmakers, photographers, cinematographers and actors are welcomed to join us for a seven-day filmmaking course under the supervision of Jaan Al-Balushi. Nearly 20 participants will come to Ithra every day from 4 to 9 p.m. to cover the stages of film-making, starting from the idea and scriptwriting, to filming, and, finally, editing. Editing equipment, such as the Adobe Premiere software, will be available. At the end of the course, three individual teams will each produce a short film of a duration ranging between two to seven minutes.

 

Course Objectives:

  • Gaining a comprehensive understanding of short films, including their history, genres and techniques.
  • Developing critical thinking and analytical skills by analyzing and critiquing various short films.
  • Learning the process of idea generation and screenplay writing for short films.
  • Acquiring practical skills in planning and preparing for film production, including location scouting and casting.
  • Gaining hands-on experience in post-production techniques such as film editing and sound design.

 

Course Outcomes:

  • To obtain practical skills in all stages of short film production, from idea generation to editing.
  • To develop a deep understanding of technical aspects, such as camera operation and sound recording.
  • To showcase creativity and storytelling abilities through creating a unique and engaging short film.
  • To learn to collaborate effectively within a team and communicate one’s vision to others.
  • To build a portfolio to portray one’s skills and creativity for further opportunities in the film industry.

Jaan AlBalushi

Jaan AlBalushi is a Bahraini Artist, director and photographer who specializes in filming short movies and commercials. He began his career in photography nearly 15 years ago, after which he opened his own studio — Jaan Click Media. There, he offers services ranging from imaging profiling, photographing weddings, makeup advertisements, commercials, art videos and concerts. AlBalushi has won numerous awards, including several international awards for his short films and photography. Recently, his feature film Zaraab screened in Bahrain cinemas as well as in several international festivals. It was nominated for best feature film in PIFF. He also has weekly YouTube programs.
