During this four-day workshop, participants will learn how to design and make wood accessories using a mechanical lathe. They will experiment with combining different materials and different kinds of wood, acquire knowledge on how to design with the tools and techniques related to woodturning. By the end of the workshop, they will have created a home accessory, to their own design.
Day 1: Participants will get background information on woodturning and see the variety of products and possible effects through the choice of technique and used material. The session will end with a short lathe exercise.
Day 2: Participants will explore basic lathe operations and start to make cuts into the wood and develop a feeling for how you can manipulate the materials using different tools.
Day 3: On the third day, participants will continue to focus on essential lathe operations and grow their confidence with the machine, develop their design ideas and review their concepts together with the group.
Day 4: The final day will provide participants with dedicated time to work on their project and share what they have learned and made during the workshop.
Note: We have the space open for you for an additional day to work further on your project and connect with other participants you have met at the workshop.
*This workshop does not require any previous knowledge on woodwork or using lathes.
