Interaction Design: Design and Prototype Apps

Course Brief / Description:

Participants will learn how to create intuitive interactions between users and products, systems or environments. The course will cover the UI design process, including exploring user needs and journeys, conceptualizing app-interaction designs, and prototyping and testing the UI design before finalizing it as a brief for app development. In addition, participants will discuss and explore cultural perspectives for designing user interfaces for the Arab world.

Learning Objectives:

• Gaining insight and perspective on the role and impact of digital user interface and user experience design.
• Becoming familiar with the five steps of the basic design cycle. Analyzing the value of design in terms of local context.
• Exploring examples of Saudi and international designers for inspiration. Working, presenting and defending a design as a team.

• Acquiring practical experience in digital UI design for mobile app and web.
• Being introduced to accessible, user-friendly UI design and prototyping tools. 
• Experiencing the steps of the design process for web or app design.

Learning Outcomes:

• Practical experience in applying the full design process, including design research, concept design prototyping and user-testing.
•  A prototyped design of a culturally relevant user interface of a mobile app.
• Confidence in how to present and define a prototype and user-tested app design concept to peer professionals and client representatives. 
• Confidence with the basic and culturally relevant design principles for designing an app-based user interface.
• Confidence in the use of state-of-the-art UI/UX design and prototyping tools (Sketch and/or Figma).
