Creative Writing: Develop Your Characters 

 

Course Description:

Creative writing is the art of making things up and inviting the reader to step into a new realm created by your imagination. Many people may think they can’t write creatively, but by tapping into your emotions, senses, and memories, anyone can write something new! By using specific techniques and stepping into a state of wonder and play, you can learn how to evoke a new experience for you and your readers.

If you are struggling to write your story, you can benefit by taking this course to give yourself the tools needed to develop stronger characters. This three-day creative writing course (for ages 16+), is for those who have writing experience in English; avid fiction readers in English; fluent in English.

  • Creative writers, advanced beginners and intermediate
  • Beginning and intermediate fiction writers, we will help you develop compelling characters, define the best voice for your story, and write your character descriptions.


Objectives:

  • Defining the concepts of character development, drafting a strong character, voice, and story structure outline, so you can craft a story.
  • Summarizing the essential elements of character development, voice, and story, so you can use them in their story development.
  • Identifying your personal essential elements of story, so that you can classify them and develop your own skills.
  • Analyzing different examples of character, so you can strengthen your development of character.


Outcomes:

  • To explore and to define the key elements of character in the story, including voice and story structure. 
  • To gain the potential to write your own character descriptions.
  • To obtain drafting a story outline using the story structure proposed.
  • To craft an opening to your story using your chosen voice.

Beth Barany is the founder of the Barany School of Fiction. A full suite of courses designed to help genre fiction writers experience clarity and get writing, so they can revise and proudly publish their novels to the delight of their readers. She has a Master NLP Practitioner and certified creativity coach for writers.
