Anas said that the Prophet ﷺ used to perform ablution with one mudd of water and wash with a sa‘ up to five mudds. (Bukhari and Muslim.)
This challenge is a result of a discussion about mosques' facilities during the 2021 Mosque Conference at Ithra. In Islam, ablution (“wudu”) is a ritual purification practice for the physical and spiritual cleanliness of a person that is performed before prayer. There is a place for ablution in every Mosque to perform wudu, but the designs are often uncomfortable, not very accessible to users and environmentally wasteful. By addressing this challenge, we look to contribute to the future of Mosques to be more sustainable and accessible. This challenge targets emerging creatives with the skill set of design and engineering to bring about an innovative solution and human-centered product which enhances the current ablution systems.
