The Spiritual Dimension informing Traditional and Contemporary Mosque Architecture

Islamic architecture stems from the universe, and the originality comes through the sequence; and this means that it is not possible to create new forms and this cannot be formed in our architecture because architecture is derived from the universe as words in language cannot be invented because they existed in the past, and Islamic architecture is linked to cosmology, in Surat Taha (To Him belongs what is in the heavens and on earth, and all between them and all beneath the soil.) The earth is symbolized by the ceiling (the dome), and the earth is symbolized by the cube, and what is between them is symbolized by the octagon, which is what connects the dome and the cube, and this is the basis of the spiritual dimension in mosques.
