Parks have an important role in our communities. They are community spaces used by everyone—intergenerational spaces. They provide access to nature, active lifestyle that improves wellbeing. They are social hubs for communities. They are informal learning spaces. They provide access to play for children which is important for learning and development—social, emotional, problem solving and creativity.

Pop-ups, or temporary installations, allow these spaces to be tested with participation with the community and create connection with communities.

This three-day workshop explores the roles of parks in our community, the benefits, and potential of parks spaces. It explores design practices for designing for these spaces and its audiences.

We will explore temporary and pop-up installations as a way to explore “what if” in a participatory way with the communities of the park and to reimagine the park space. Participants will have the chance to design a pop-up garden and then implement it in a real-life garden.
