Maisa Shaldan
Visual Artist
Maisa Shaldan is a Saudi visual artist of Palestinian descent, whose multidisciplinary practice delves into the elements of cultural heritage, societal memory and human-environmental interactions. For her outstanding and dedicated work, she received the MISK grant in 2023, and a collection of her works was exhibited in UNISCO in 2018.
Her work often involves the transformation of materials such as metals, handcrafted paper, gypsum and natural pigments, reflecting a profound connection to the Earth's essence and humanities ancient relationship with nature.
Her dual expertise as an artist and an educational and family counselor and a master’s degree in educational and psychology counseling, constructed her artistic exploration of psychological and philosophical dimensions, as she seeks to express the depth of time and its influences on human experience. Shaldan's innovative practice offers polished perspectives on the complexities of cultural preservation, identity and the transient nature of societal constructs.
