Cristián Mohaded

Cristián Mohaded

Artist

Born in 1980 in Recreo, Catamarca in Argentina, Cristián was raised among people making things: his mother weaving, his grandmother painting watercolors, old artisans of his town creating with their own hands at the street fair. Crafts were a major presence in his life since childhood, from fixing an old chair to rearranging the house’s furniture, drawing faces or natural landscapes. Curiosity about the act of making and how things are done has been a driving force in his approach as a designer.

Cristián studied industrial design at Córdoba National University and, inspired by renowned designers and artists such as Ricardo Blanco (AR), the Campana Brothers (BR) and Lucio Fontana (AR). Over the past decade, he has gained global recognition designing, curating and creating across a broad spectrum of projects. Pieces that range all the way from small objects to site-specific installations, including furniture collections, luminous compositions, sculptures and even drawings.

In his practice, Cristián blends contemporary expressions, material research and techniques with the influence of his natal landscape: mountains, salt flats, sand dunes and volcanoes.
