Course Description:


This course welcomes writers, artists, calligraphers, digital font creators and designers, covering the history, anatomy and cultural significance of Arabic calligraphy. It introduces this unique art form as a source of national pride and competitive excellence, and teaches participants how to write and create professional artworks using Arabic calligraphy.

Course Objectives:


1- Identifying the original roots in the construction of Arabic calligraphy
2- Studying the characters, their anatomy and their applications
3- Understanding the rules of connection for double, triple and quadruple letter combinations
4- Applying and practicing sentence construction and layout
5- Benefiting from the contemporary and modern aspects of Saudi calligraphy and how to create artworks using it

1- To study the historical aspect of Arabic calligraphy
2- To master the writing of individual characters 
3- To understand the method of connecting letters and words
4- To write sentences in Saudi calligraphy with professionalism

Zaki Alhashmi

Zaki Alhashmi is a calligrapher, UNESCO specialist and an art consultant to the King Abdulaziz Foundation for Research and Archives (Darah) in Riyadh. He holds an Ijazah certificate in Arabic calligraphy, a field in which he has won numerous international awards. Zaki is the author of 25 manuals about the Naskh script, a workbook series comprising 22 booklets teaching Arabic writing for non-Arabs, and the Meaning Landscapes about the role of Arabic fonts in the preservation of Arabic poetry.
