A young woman living out of the city goes on two crucial road trips, one with her father and the other with her fiancé to his parents house in the city. Upon arriving, she comes to question everything she thought she knew about him, and herself. Does It Hurt Too Bad to Look at Me? invites audiences to reflect on the fragility of relationships, the influence of parents on our choices, and self exploration.

Rana Wael Mahmoud Matar

Rana Matar is a Jordanian, Egyptian, and Algerian filmmaker. Rana's documentary Your Voice Only won Best Saudi Documentary Film by NEOM at the Effat International Film Festival and was screened at global festivals such as Kurzfilm Hamburg Film Festival International competition sponsored by ARTE and British Film Institute. Her short fiction film Does It Hurt Too Bad to Look at Me?, sponsored by NEOM, is NEOMs first short film premiered at the Cairo Film Festival 45th Edition and Red Sea Film Festivals. A graduate of the School of Cinematic Arts at Effat University, working at the Red Sea International Film Festival, in the film programming department assisting in programming to evaluate and assess feature films in the international films in the Red Sea Festival where she works on Initial Film Evaluation, Content Assessment in Film, Supporting Programmers, Knowledge Transfer and Process Improvement. Rana Matar was selected in El Gouna Film Festival 7th Edition, The Cine-Gouna Emerge alumni talent program aims to empower Egypt’s next generation of filmmakers, funded by the European Union with industry professionals in filmmaking.
