The Mountain Head tells the story of a miserly man who swallows cherry pits, only to have a cherry tree grow from his head, bringing both fame and trouble. With its satirical style and folklore-inspired narrative, the film explores themes of greed and its consequences. It was nominated for the Best Animated Short Film at the 2003 Academy Awards.

Koji Yamamura (山村 浩二) is a renowned Japanese animation director, born in 1964. He is known for his unique style of experimental animation, often inspired by folklore and traditional art. His short film Mt. Head (2002) was nominated for an Academy Award, establishing him as a leading figure in independent Japanese animation. His other notable works include Franz Kafka’s A Country Doctor (2007) and Muybridge’s Strings (2011).
