America's View of Cinema in the East:

This book presents an overview of the general Western view of the East, from a cultural, religious and geographical perspective. Through an analysis of a group of films that dealt with the "other" in general, and the East in particular, we examine how this view has been formed and developed throughout history, from a documentary and media perspective to a cinematic perspective. The aim of this review is to gain a deeper understanding of the nature of this view through the cinematic lens, which has always been characterized by bias and lack of neutrality toward the East, or even from the perspective of the "Global North," with its dominant economy, toward the "Global South." In this context, we review cinematic art in its various categories: ethnic, regional, cultural, linguistic and even intellectual.
This view does not seek to be a protest or an outcry, but rather a logical reaction to a deviant context, a distorted image, and a mechanism that has continued for decades, targeting the East, the Middle East, Arabs, Muslims and other cultures belonging to the Global South through stereotypical images presented by cinema. The book's chapters offer a comprehensive and detailed overview of how the "other" sees us, how they think about us, how they want us to see them and what our own perspective is. Representation of Arabs across Western literature, cinema and history books remain relatively superficial and cartoonish.

Saudi Cinema and the Filmography of Saudi Films in Cinemas Up to 2023:

Creating a film that meets the taste of the filmmaker and the festival is completely different when measured against the mood of the box office and its difficult stakes. Competing with films and production companies with experience and a proven track record in understanding the box office and the challenges it poses is a kind of futility, were it not for the boundless ambition of the Saudis, who have managed seemingly unattainable feats in just a few years that are worthy of attention and documentation.
This book seeks to preserve the documented filmography, making published material about films a specific means of documentation. It places great importance on everything written or said about Saudi films, and features a wide range of opinions and feedback from all sorts of writers and platforms, both positive and negative.
By following the reception theory that emphasizes each particular recipient’s interpretation in making meaning from a literary text, an artistic expression in this instant, all sentiments are recorded and considered of interest. For one day, they may become handy to an academic researcher, and provide valid citations. Much like other forms of artistic expressions, cinema thrives on the criticism, studies and scientific research it receives and reaches new heights by building on its intangible impact. This is currently evident in across box office demand, social media comments, and visual and written references on websites, newspapers and magazines. The filmography documents the initial phase, from sowing the seeds to planting the green forest of Saudi cinema with films that transcend our theaters and land in theaters around the world.
