Learning Chair

Education has evolved beyond the traditional classroom, but most of furniture we use  remains the same.  Traditional classroom seating, usually designed for uniformity, often overlooks the diverse ways people learn, move, and engage. With new research highlighting the value of active learning, furniture should no longer be a passive element in the classroom. Instead, it needs to support focus, interaction and a range of learning styles.
The Product Design Challenge invites designers to rethink the classroom chair, maximizing its potential for learning. Participants will be asked to design seating that meets the needs of today’s learners and addresses changes in attention spans, the need for movement, and the importance of flexibility in the classroom. The objective is to design a chair for the classroom that contributes to the learning experience: engages students, provides comfort, and promotes meaningful interaction.
In this six-day challenge, participants will explore how furniture in the classroom can be viewed as a silent teacher.  Participants will be asked to rethink and reimagine how a classroom chair can be designed to increase participation and well-being, with the overall goal to create more dynamic and responsive learning environments.
