Brahim Alaoui

Initially a researcher at the Musée d’Art moderne de la Ville de Paris, Brahim Alaoui was subsequently director of the museum of the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris where, between 1987 and 2007, he organized numerous exhibitions that contributed to building his reputation. He is the author of many written works and catalogues, notably on contemporary Arab artists. He has been a member of various juries, including the Venice Biennale in 1999 (UNESCO prize) and the Shanghai Biennale in 2001 (UNESCO prize). He was also a member of the UNESCO Advisory Committee for Works of Art until 2007, a member of ICOM (International Council of Museums) and a member of AICA-France (International Association of Art Critics). He now divides his time between his activities as a consultant in cultural engineering and publishing, and exhibition curating.
