Director of Kahhal Looms

Mohamed El Kahhal is the Managing Director of Kahhal Looms. He holds a bachelor’s in finance from Northeastern University in Boston, USA (2003).

For over 150 years, the El Kahhal family has been at the forefront of handmade rug production in the Middle East. Their legacy began in 1871 and continues today at their historic store in Khan al-Khalili, which started operating in 1936. Mohamed and his sister Hend — the fifth generation to join the family business — founded Kahhal Looms in 2002. Their work combines rich heritage with contemporary designs and techniques. They bring a modern twist to the family’s long tradition in carpet weaving, creating unique rugs that blend the past with the present. With a flagship store at the Grand Egyptian Museum, Kahhal Looms celebrates their deep connection to Egyptian history and their commitment to preserving this ancient craft.
