Egyptian conductor and composer Hisham Gabr was born in 1972. Gabr studied the art of conducting orchestras in both Egypt and France with notable conductors such as Christoph Muller, Dominique Rouets, Jean-Jacques Werner and Ahmed El-Saidi. Gabr is involved as an orchestra conductor and composer with many international orchestras and famous artistic institutions, including: Göttingen Symphony Orchestra (Germany), Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra and Plovdiv Opera Orchestra (Bulgaria), Wroclaw Philharmonic Orchestra (Poland), e Pomereje Musical Orchestra (Italy), the State Symphony Orchestra (Mexico), the Kyiv Camerata Orchestra (Ukraine), the Macedonian Philharmonic Orchestra, the Astana Philharmonic Orchestra, the Lebanese Philharmonic Orchestra, the Caracalla Show and others. In Egypt, Gabr periodically leads the most important orchestras during symphonic and opera performances: the Cairo Symphony Orchestra, the Cairo Opera Orchestra, the Alexandria Library Chamber Orchestra, and others.

 

Since the early 1990s, Gabr has been composing soundtracks for films, documentaries, musicals and theatrical performances, both for Egyptian and international productions. The Cairo Symphony Orchestra has been playing Gabr's compositions since 2003, and they have received tremendous public and critical appreciation. One of Gabr's most important modern works, the musical "Ibn Battuta - The Prince of the Travelers," was presented at the opening of the new National Theater in Bahrain, and after its great success, it was re-presented at the Royal Opera in Muscat, and then at Milan Expo in Italy. Gabr also composed and led the music for "Praxa," the first Egyptian work of musical theater. It was shown for the first time in July 2009 at the Grand Theater of the Cairo Opera House: It was a huge success with the public and widely praised by the press. "Praxa" has also been performed at the Royal Opera House in Muscat.
