Haji Noor Deen Mi Guangjiang
Mi Guang Jiang is a renowned master of Arabic calligraphy. He was born in 1963 in Yucheng, China. In 2000, he initiated and taught the first regular and systemic Arabic Calligraphy course at the Zhengzhou Islamic College in China. In 2005, his calligraphy piece named “The Ninety-Nine Names of God” was acquired by The British Museum. Mi Guang Jiang has been included in the list of The 500 Most Influential Muslims published by the Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Centre in cooperation with Prince Al-Waleed Bin Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding at Georgetown University. In 2016, he was awarded the Dubai Islamic Economy Development Centre 2016 Islamic Economy Award in the category of Islamic Arts. In 2017 honored with an Arabic Calligraphy Certificate (ijazah), he was the first Chinese Calligrapher to be honored by the Ottoman Calligraphy School. In 2021, he participated in UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage Forum in Miami, and received the Heritage Award. The focus of his work is a masterful calligraphic technique that uniquely fuses both the Chinese and Arabic arts. His work is displayed around the world, often as the first Chinese/Arabic artist, and has been acquired for the permanent collections of many museums including The British Museum, San Francisco Asian Museum, National Museum of Scotland, and Harvard University’s Art Museum.
