Abdullah Al-Shaikh

Saudi artist Al-Shaikh, was born in Al-Zubair in 1936 and worked in Dhahran until he passed away in 2019. He studied painting at the institute of Fine Arts in Baghdad in 1959, and completed his university studies in Print and Graphic Design in 1965, followed by an apprenticeship in Print and Design at Manchester College, England. Al-Shaikh started his professional career teaching art education, then became a designer at the Ministry of Industry, eventually becoming the director of print production.  In 1984, he worked as Head of Design at the Royal Commission of Jubail and Yunbu printing press. In 1999, he dedicated his time to his art, which is characterized by abstract murals combining painting and sculpture. He is considered a pioneer in the local arts scene, as his works reflect his beliefs in tradition, heritage and Islamic architecture. He participated in more than 50 local and International art exhibitions and received more than 20 awards for his creative works. He has taken part as a jury member in a number of art competitions, as well as representing the Kingdom abroad in several art and culture events.
