How can we use the design principles found in Arabic-Islamic manuscripts for application in contemporary design? Taking inspiration from our cultural heritage is the focus for the "From Manuscript to Contemporary Design Challenge". During the challenge, you will study the typographic, graphic and layout traditions used in Ithra’s museum collection of Arabic-Islamic manuscripts. You will discover the different forms used across history, and be inspired to create new interpretations and find new applications. With your fellow participants, you will explore and discuss the expression of an Arabic identity in a rapidly globalizing world through contemporary design. Through the creation of contemporary works such as posters, book covers, typographical works and illustrations, participants will show how our cultural heritage has inspired them.
