To the observer, palm weaving and hair braiding feel like two sides of the same coin — both are handicrafts whose essence goes beyond the tangible, opening a doorway into unseen worlds.
When reflecting on the craft of palm weaving, the mind drifts to childhood memories — a mother braiding her daughter’s hair by a sunlit window, her fingers weaving with quiet precision. Hair braiding is both a visual and emotional ritual, etched into a child’s memory. A motion repeated until time seems to slow, leading to the birth of the braid — the elegant conclusion to a journey of patience and care. In much the same way, palm weaving carries a hidden dimension in a realm that cannot be touched or seen. Through the rhythm of repeated movements, artisans create around themselves a space of contemplation and mental immersion.
This film seeks to step into that state of being, revealing the inner world of al-Hasa’s weavers as the palm transforms before our eyes from a cherished tree into a woven masterpiece. It is a meditative and spiritual work, not an instructional film — an artistic reflection on human creativity and the meeting point between people and nature, within a community that has passed down this practice through generations in Saudi Arabia.
In every scene, the palm will be the protagonist — the source of inspiration for every story told.
