Course Description:


The course prepares writers, illustrators, researchers and educators to enter the world of children's stories, whether they are aspiring authors, artists, publishers or simply interested in children's literature. It seeks to introduce children's literature and the art of the story in particular. Additionally, it aims to distinguish between different age groups and identify the appropriate narrative text for them by defining and differentiating between types of children's stories. Moreover, the course provides training on the steps for writing picture books and young adult stories (chapter books), reviewing global and local experiences and experimenting with writing a picture book or a young adult story (chapter book).

1- Introducing children's literature and the art of the story in particular
2- Distinguishing between the different age groups of children
3- Defining the types of children's stories and differentiating between them
4- Training on the steps of writing picture books and young adult stories (chapter books)
5- Reviewing global and local experiences

Course Outcome:


1- To emerge with a narrative text, or at least a mature idea for a story, either a picture book or a chapter book, that is suitable for publication.

Wafa Al-Subayel

Dr. Wafa Al-Subayel is a retired professor specializing in children’s literature and comparative literature. She previously served as a member of the Family Affairs Council. She has a distinguished academic and cultural presence at both local and international levels, with active participation in conferences and cultural organizations, as well as contributions to initiatives focused on children’s culture.

She is a writer, researcher, translator and cultural advocate who has published more than twenty works in the field of children’s literature and has received several literary and educational awards. She brings extensive experience in developing cultural and educational content and in serving the academic and cultural community.
