Opening Ceremony and Hosted Show
The King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture (Ithra) launches the Opening Ceremony of the Short Play Contest in its fifth edition on August 11, 2025. This event is a vibrant celebration of theatrical talent and cultural expression, marking the journey of a significant creative initiative. The ceremony promotes artistic innovation, creative expression and meaningful community engagement within the Kingdom.
The evening will highlight Ithra’s commitment to fostering the performing arts and supporting emerging playwrights and performers, with a special segment dedicated to honoring Mr. Abdulaziz Alismail as a distinguished artist and celebrating his contribution to the local and regional theater landscape. Followed by a guest theatrical performance from the Sultanate of Oman.

About the Play
The play revolves around two people working in a sewing workshop where time drags on and they suffer from boredom and tedium. Their conversations touch on everyday issues such as accumulating bills, power outages and the prevailing state of frustration. In an attempt to escape these stressful circumstances, they decide to organize a theatrical performance set on a ship facing a massive storm.
