Nature Architects (10 to 12 years)

From 24 July until 3 August

Adobe, cob, turf and bamboo: Buildings made from natural materials use local, renewable, abundant resources from the surrounding environment. For the last few thousands of years, their designs have provided modest traditional urban spaces that suit the geography. In this track, campers will be introduced to different types of heritage architecture built from natural resources and they will focus on dynamic function design to define their distinctive characters and create natural solutions in contemporary architecture.

Goals:
- Implement innovative solutions using natural materials for structural elements, material selection and construction details
- Reinforce the importance of environmental ecologically responsible design

Day-by-day Schedule

Saturday | Orientation Day

On the orientation day, parents can complete the registration forms and collect the participants’ camp kits. This is also a chance for your child to familiarize themselves with the camp’s environment, learning spaces, facilitators, and friends.

Sunday: The center is closed.

Monday| Architecture 101

What is architecture? What does an architect do? What does a career in architecture look like? All these questions will be answered through exploring and understanding the concept of natural architecture.

Tuesday| Inspirations from Nature

Humanity has always been inspired by nature, whether it’s in their art, designs or in their buildings. Simple vs complex, traditional vs current. All of which are architectural concepts the campers will explore, and discover how they are integrated in the designs they see around them.

Wednesday| Architectural Sustainability

Our young architects will learn to recognize natural resources that are used in current vs old architecture. They will find the answer to the meaning of sustainability and how it affects architecture.

Thursday| What is My Role?

Building has always been inspired by nature, whether it’s in their art, designs or in their buildings. Simple vs complex, traditional vs current. All of which are architectural concepts the campers will explore, and discover how they are integrated in the designs they see around them.

Monday| Green Architecture Part 1

On this day, campers will observe the multiple manufacturing processes, and the making of contemporary architecture while integrating natural elements. How are natural materials utilized? What are the different old techniques that can be used in modern complex architecture? These questions will be answered by the campers themselves after analyzing the environment around them.

Tuesday | Green Architecture Part 2

How are contemporary designs influenced by cultural heritage? Bridging the past with the present, campers will apply their gained knowledge in designing and sketching solutions for modern designs.

Wednesday| I Pledge

Through each of the campers’ designs, they will begin to see their creation in real life models, allowing young architects to act positively and become environmentally responsible. They will have to look at their designs critically and make their edits as they go along with the help of their friends and field experts.

Thursday| A Journey to Remember

Taking a look back at the 7 days spent in camp, our nature architects will reflect on their journey, look at the lessons learned, and apply the final touches on their work.
