Made from Nature (7 to 9 years)
From 24 July until 3 August
Cut, mold, assemble! Campers will be introduced to nature from a different perspective, looking at it from a critical and essential standpoint. Acting together in a workshop, they will be encouraged to use nature as an inspiration to their work. Campers will go beyond architecture and construction while mainly using natural elements. They will use different techniques such as sculpting, wiring and building things in the process of creating natural products.
Goals
- Campers will be introduced to different techniques used in workshops to create finished products from natural raw materials.
Day-by-Day programs schedule
Saturday| Orientation Day:
On the orientation day, parents can complete the registration forms and collect the participants’ camp kits. This is also a chance for your child to familiarize themselves with the camp’s environment, learning spaces, facilitators, and friends.
Sunday: The center is closed.
Monday| How People Make Things:
From nature, through factories and homes, campers will be introduced to the different natural elements and materials that are used in their day-to-day lives. They will also be taking a look at the handy shop and the different spaces they will be using during the camp.
Safety first! Each camper will learn about the safety features and mechanisms of the different tools available in the handy shop.
Tuesday| Sustainability as a Way of Life:
On this day, campers will explore the different materials that we can take from nature. What does sustainability mean? Which one do you think is more sustainable? Which one is more durable? Our young architects will be able to answer through games and hands-on experiences.
Wednesday| Natural vs Artificial:
Exploring the world around us; what different materials do we take from our Earth? What materials are manmade? The importance of this distinction will be examined by the campers themselves as they go through Ithra’s interior and exterior designs.
Thursday| Let’s Look Around:
Let’s take a look around us, what do we see? Buildings, nature and materials. How are these three elements incorporated in the different architectural designs and our everyday tools? Campers will get the chance to explore Ithra and the different structures inside it, to get inspired to create their own designs; whether it’s a miniature building or an everyday object.
Sunday: The center is closed.
Monday| Can I Use That?
On this day, campers will apply the knowledge gained from previous sessions and decide for themselves the mediums for which they want to use in their designs. Moving forward from an architectural and STEM standpoint, our young architects will experiment in their handy shop and start making architectural decisions on their designs.
Tuesday| Design for Nature:
It is time for our architects to bring their ideas to life. Sketching, implementing, editing, and putting things together! Each camper will go through the whole process to come up with the best designs for their ideas and creations.
Wednesday| The Impact I Make:
Based on what they learned in the previous sessions, our young architects will now get to test their designs, help each other make the final edits and put their last touches on their products. On this day, campers will discover the impact of using natural vs processed materials on the environment and how they can be a helping-hand to take care of the environment around them.
Thursday | Our Journey So Far:
For the past 7 days, our young architects have explored the world around them from a new perspective. They discovered how people make things, and how they can make things for themselves by using the natural materials around them. On the last day, the campers will look back on their journey and prepare to show their families what they learned.
Thursday | The Last Day (Family Experience):
Join us with your child for the final 45 minutes on the last day of the camp for a fun-packed family time and get a taste of what the children experienced during camp!
