Abdullah Hammas
Hammas is a Saudi artist born in 1952 in Abha, in southern Saudi Arabia. He currently lives and works in Jeddah.
Hammas studied at the Institute of Art Education where he graduated in 1973. He worked as an art teacher in both Riyadh and Jeddah and became chair of the arts committee at the Society of Fine Arts & Culture in Jeddah. A visual and abstract artist, he is one of the most famous artists in Saudi Arabia as well as the Arab world; respected in the region as one of the pioneers of his field.
His works are based on abstract symbolism, and are influenced by his southern Arabian origins, as his works show characteristics of the area’s simple lifestyle and distinctive colors of its landscape.
