Why is there an open call?
This open call was created to enable talented Saudi artists to participate in a collective exhibit in Ithra’s Gallery 2 titled “From Earth.” The artist of each selected artwork will receive compensation up to 20,000 SAR ($5300 approximately) to produce and deliver the proposed artwork. The proposed artwork should not exceed $5300 in cost, including production, shipping, crating, insurance, artist fees and project management costs. The selected artworks will be displayed at Ithra as part of the upcoming exhibit “From Earth” that will run from February through July 2023.

Where will the selected artworks be displayed?
The selected artworks will be displayed in the exhibit “From Earth” which will be installed in Ithra’s Gallery 2, also known as the Ajyaal Gallery.
Who can participate in this competition?
Artists who are Saudi nationals and over 16 years old.
Can I participate with a work that has been previously exhibited?
No, the proposal must present a new, original work, exclusive to Ithra.
What should my proposal include?
- The proposed artwork concept.
- Supporting sketches and visuals.
- Detailed budget breakdown: the budget of the artwork cannot exceed 20,000 SAR (approximately $5300). Budget must include production, shipping, crating, insurance, installation and project management costs.
- Artwork production timeline from the point of conceptualizing and research to the delivery of the art work to the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture (Ithra) in Dhahran.
Is there a size and weight limitation for the artwork?
Yes, the artwork cannot exceed: 4 x 2.5 m and weight restrictions of 500 kg per square meter. The artwork must be able to fit into crates and be transported to the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture (Ithra) in Dhahran.
Can I submit more than one proposal?
No, applicants are restricted to one proposal only. Applicants who submit multiple proposals will not be considered.

When is the deadline for applying for the open call?
The deadline for applying is October 29, 2022, until 11:59 p.m. (GMT +3).
When will the selected artworks be announced?
The artists whose proposals have been selected will be contacted on November 11, 2022.
