Masterclass title: New Media Art and Audiovisuals

We are witnessing the turn of the tide in Saudi Arabian culture and expression. This unprecedented cultural renaissance is driven by the Crown Prince Highness Mohammed Bin Salman Al Saud’s auspicious Vision 2030. Through a journey into this transformation, artists are faced with the challenge of catching up with the action and making a career out of it. It can be a difficult journey for most as the barriers of entry are arbitrary and competition is fierce. Nasser AlShemimry (DJ DesertF!sh), and Maryam Tariq and Waleed Shamlan (The Golden Ratio) are excited to tell their origin stories and how they went about turning their passion into a career.

DesertF!sh joins studio colleagues The Golden Ratio to share their quest for finding a passion through self-taught learning. Discover how they established themselves as freelance artists and built their creative businesses and practices. The trio talks about the techniques and resources they have had to gain to get a foothold in the audiovisual industry in Saudi, and share their personal insights on the new contemporary digital art scene.

Following the Tanween talk, the workshop will be a digital showcase demonstrating the artists’ work in action in a masterclass in new media art and audiovisuals.
