Ali Almasri is a type designer and multidisciplinary artist. In 2014, he launched his own type foundry under the name “Abjad”. In 2020, he launched his own concept store inspired by Arabic calligraphy and the diversity of the visual culture that spreads across Islamic lands. Almasri also cofounded the social design initiative “Wajha” in 2012.
Almasri holds a degree in industrial and graphic design, with a background in print-making, traditional Arabic calligraphy, and the history of Islamic art. He has presented several talks and workshops in different cities across the Arab world. He has worked with international brands and organizations, in addition to being a design consultant on Arabic typography, for several design agencies. Almasri’s work has featured on several local and international platforms. He is currently based in Amman, Jordan.
