Carving with Mangour Wood (5 Days)

This is an opportunity for all carpentry enthusiasts to take part in a Mangour wood workshop. They will get the chance to learn as well as fine tune their skills in the basics of woodwork and machining with the end result being the creation of a rawasheen piece. The participants will also get in-depth knowledge about the language of mangour, and will also be shown how to create sentences with mangour letters which will also combine geometric patterns and the application of all these on wood in the form of wood carving. The Mangour letters are traditional shapes used in the Hejaz region, specifically in Al-Balad, Jiddah. These letters incorporate different traditions motifs from different regions in the Islamic world (Egypt, Yemen, or India). Not only will the participants learn the art itself, but also its origins and the beauty behind this architectural element which is all about individualism without isolation.
