This workshop introduces the tools and techniques the participants will need to create finished piercings on copper sheet metal! This workshop walks through the steps to create a copper design, which can also be done with sterling silver. The techniques taught to create copper sheets include sawing, filing, sanding, and polishing the metal along with the primary motive, piercing designs on the metal sheet.
Copper is a non-ferrous metal, that has the advantage of being highly malleable (the ability to be flattened). Copper is also soft enough to cut and shape into jewelry with ease.
The participants will be encouraged to draw and use their designs to create beautiful pieces! They will use graph paper to create symmetrical designs. Later, they will sharpen up the straight lines with a ruler, cut the desired pattern with a bit of space around the outer edge, and then firmly press the pattern to the sheet metal and smooth down the edges.
