How can we make the most of public spaces in Saudi Arabia and distinctively make them our own?  How can we engage local residents, enhance their neighborhoods and create healthy sustainable communities? Placemaking is the planning, design and management of public spaces, and it is usually fueled by the imagination of community residents, stakeholders, artists, designers and culture bearers. In this Tanween Challenge, participants will be asked to choose a specific neighborhood in Saudi Arabia and creatively enhance it with a place design which responds to that area’s specific strengths and shortcomings. Participants will learn how to evaluate a community’s assets and needs to develop a design concept that helps to elevate, shape, and transform the physical, social, cultural and economic qualities of the chosen neighborhood. This Challenge includes research, design and 3D illustration phases. The best designs and research reports will be published and showcased during Tanween conference 2020.
