Calling All Performance Makers and Theater Artists!

Ithra's first short play contest

August 2021

Ithra is currently receiving applications for the first ever Ithra Short Play Contest, scheduled to run from August 5-7, 2021.

Eight plays will perform over the three-day festival at the Energy Theater with the aim of empowering local talent and enriching theatrical content.

We welcome writers, directors, and performers to share their talents and creativity with a live audience at this artistic event.

What we are looking for:

  • Short play scripts that run between 15-20 minutes long (about 12-20 pages) that require minimal sets and technical support, and includes no more than six actors.
  • Beginners and professionals interested in directing short plays.

The application process:

• When applying as a playwright, the completed original scripts should be sent by email to with the written consent attached by no later than June 13, 2021 (This is now closed).

• When applying as a theater director, the registration form must be filled out via director registration form and submitted no later than June 6, 2021. (This is now closed).

Selection process:

  • The festival coordinators will evaluate and select eight directors.
  • Directors will be asked to choose a play from the shortlisted scripts.
  • The festival coordinators will pass on the chosen scripts to the directors, and link the directors to the scriptwriters if needed.

*Please note that to be eligible to participate as a director and scriptwriter, you must be at the age of 18 and above. It is also recommended to be a member of Ithra Theater Society.

Conditions for submission:

• That the script is original and the property rights of the playwright himself. In the event that the script is plagiarized, the coordinators will exclude it.

• That the director be responsible for selecting the script, setting their artistic vision on the play, casting actors, leading rehearsals and overseeing the technical rehearsals.
