Faber Futures presents Saudi After Oil, a workshop to question and model preferred futures in a Kingdom poised to transition from its dependence on fossil fuel extraction. How do biology, design and technology interact with ecological extremes, distinctive geographical regions and evolving cultural practice in a world after the oil age? By redefining value systems, Saudi Arabia may be uniquely positioned to usher in a new era of development based on existing resilience strategies, and emerging technologies. Through this workshop we uncover the kinds of interdependencies Saudi Arabia could foster in a global context as relates to climate change and material flows. Exploring these issues through the lens of food and material culture, we invite participants to raise questions and envisage possible futures through the prototyping and evaluation of speculative local environments.
